Skinners’ Kent Schools Data Breach
The Skinners’ Kent schools in Tunbridge Wells were closed on June 7th following the announcement that the schools’ servers had been breached by hackers. It is believed that personal data may have been breached as a result. If you have been affected by the Skinners’ Kent school’s data breach, you may be entitled to claim compensation. Our expert solicitors are specialists in pursuing data breach claims and can help you get the compensation you deserve.
The data breach was discovered on June 2nd 2021. As part of the breach, hackers not only obtained the personal data of staff and students but also encrypted some of the schools’ data. As a result, the schools could not access vital information, such as medical information and emergency contact details for students and staff. This meant they had to close until they could regather this data.
The attack was described by the Skinners’ Kent Academy Trust as “sophisticated”. The Trust also noted that they reported the breach to Action Fraud (National Fraud & Cyber Crime Reporting Centre) as soon as they became aware of it. The Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) has also been informed and is investigating the matter.
The impact of the Skinners’ Kent school’s data breach for those affected could be substantial. Indeed, there is a possibility that medical and bank information may have been stolen. As a result, it is vital that those affected consider a potential claim for compensation. After all, the loss of this kind of information to hackers can have a major impact.

What data was taken in the Skinners’ Kent school’s data breach?
Unfortunately, as a result of their servers being encrypted, the Trust stated that “we cannot be sure exactly what the hackers have access to and what they don’t.”
However, they did note that the hackers had likely breached a variety of data. This includes “human resources files and a significant number of staff data, some student data including medical information”. The data could also include bank details. The Trust has informed parents that “it would be very wise to let your bank know that your bank details may have been taken.”
How do I know if I have been affected by the Skinners’ Kent school’s data breach?
If the breach has affected you, the Trust should have already notified you directly. If you have a connection with the Skinners’ Kent Academy and have received no information, you should contact them as soon as possible. The Trust notes that details of “hirers, contractors and suppliers were involved but this did not include their financial details.” If you have concerns, the Trust suggests speaking to a member of the team on 01892 534377. They also offer an FAQ on their website.
